Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency is yet unable to confirm
if a liferaft found by a group of four fishermen some 10 nautical miles off
Port Dickson yesterday, is from an aircraft.
Its director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish said
MMEA despatched a team on receiving a report on the find from the group.
"When the MMEA team tried to get the liferaft from the group,
the tether broke and it sank ... most likely because the rope was frayed,".
However, he said pictures of the liferaft were captured by the
group and disseminated on the Internet.
He urged anyone with more information on the liferaft to contact
the authorities.
The find is of significance in the wake of missing Malaysia
Airlines Flight MH370.
MAS Flight MH370, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, went
missing en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing about an hour after taking off
from the KL
International Airport at 12.41 am Saturday. It should have landed
in Beijing at
6.30 am.
